North West Counties Championship Show cancelled by the BHS

The North West Regional Committee of The British Horse Society has cancelled the North West Counties Championship Show at Somerford Park Farm on 1-2 September - for resource and safety reasons.

The committee was unable to resolve a number of difficulties relating to a shortage of available resources and equipment, arising from a clash of dates with other shows. This led to concerns about safety, so that the committee decided, with great regret, there was no other option but to cancel this year's event.

The BHS Regional Chairman Christine Worthington said: "The committee and organisers are bitterly disappointed it has been necessary to cancel the show and are really sorry to disappoint the riders who have clearly been working hard to qualify for this prestigious event."

North-West Regional Development Officer Karen Lewty said: "We are all extremely disappointed given the success of the show in previous years and the brilliant support from the riders, owners and dedicated committee members and volunteers.

Given the level of commitment involved, it was felt only right that the BHS North West Regional Committee give people plenty of notice of cancellation. It would have been extremely regrettable to continue with plans for the show, only to find out much nearer the time, that quality standards and safety margins could not be achieved and the show would still be forced to cancel."

She added: "We would like to thank our exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers for their support and look forward to continuing the event next year. Registration and entry fees will, of course, be refunded in full and the committees and volunteers in the North West region look forward to your continued support in future years."
